Ashlee Garcia studies why nurses adopt, abandon, or sustain new clinical technology, using ambient AI documentation as the case. Most evidence comes from physicians, but the nursing tool works differently. It writes to flowsheets rather than drafting a note, so physician findings may not transfer. Her research follows nurses across medical-surgical units at a community hospital, from before go-live through seven months after. In interviews with 20 nurses, intent to adopt tracked documentation burden rather than technology confidence. She is developing the Integrated Nursing Technology Index, a nursing-specific measure of technology readiness, adoption, and sustained use.
